In 1995, Tom Wheeler helped a group of 12 plumbers and a general contractor start the first Self Insured Group (SIG) for Nevada contractors.

That SIG was a milestone since it opened new vistas in workers’ comp and achieved an industry-crushing loss ratio with aggressively managed claims and grew into the largest group of its kind in the Silver State.

In 2002, Tom Wheeler formed a partnership with Coll Thomson, Joe Wheeler, and attorney Dave Johnson. These partners brought a vast amount of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm about the self insurance industry. Together they started Self Insured Solutions (SIS), with a focus to create and administer workers’ compensation self insured groups (SIG) in California.

Marking their fifth successful year of operations in California, Self Insured Solutions manages five successful self insured workers’ comp groups that have made over $135 million in SIG contributions.

With offices in Ontario and employees throughout the Golden State, Self Insured Solutions has become one of California’s most successful developers and administrators of private self insured workers’ compensation groups.
